If you have checked out my website or my Facebook page, you have seen photos of my friend Vanessa Valiente. Vanessa is a fabulous wardrobe stylist here in San Diego. We get together every so often to put together fun outfits and photos for her blog.
Usually Vanessa will give me her topic idea and then we brainstorm for great locations. For this session, she is writing about how to dress in monotone colors. She showed me the outfit and my first thought was to try to find some kind of warehouse door in the art area of Little Italy. I wanted to keep with the monotone theme but find something visually interesting. We did a little bit of drive-by location scouting and came across this little gem of a building.
The great thing about this location with Vanessa’s outfit is that the lines in the aluminum siding play off of the lines in her skirt. And then you also have the vertical lines at the top of the frame that keep with the linear theme but give a little contrast to the horizontal. With Vanessa’s dark hair and the abundance of lines, we had be a little careful with distracting lines coming out of her head but there was enough separation in the windows to pull it off pretty easily.
